Amelia Island Plantation Previews Clubhouse, Reveals Renaming of Course

Amelia River Golf Club, one of four signature courses operated by Amelia Island Plantation, has opened its 3,700-square-foot-plus clubhouse and revealedAmelia Island Plantation officially the golf club's new name. Opened as Royal Amelia in 2000, Amelia River Golf Club was purchased by the Amelia Island Company in 2005, joining Oak Marsh, Ocean Links, and Long Point in the company's stable of championship golf courses.  The new name reflects better the beauty of the course, as well as its location adjacent to the Amelia River on Amelia Island.  The clubhouse restaurant will open in December.

"We are excited to bring these new facilities to our guests and to our community," said Jack B. Healan Jr., president of Amelia Island Plantation Company.  "The clubhouse, with its ‘golfer-focused' restaurant menu (coming in December), food options and pro shop, will make the Tom Jackson-designed championship course at Amelia River Golf Club an even more inviting place to play."

Amelia Island PlantationBarry Richardson, head golf professional at Amelia River, agreed, adding that "it's a very playable golf course for all levels.  If you're a low handicapper you can be very challenged, or you can be a beginner and still enjoy your round without being penalized.  The course always is in excellent condition, and with the new clubhouse, the amenities will be focused in one area, making it very golfer friendly."

Amelia River is renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth TifEagle greens and wide Scottish links-style fairways. This par-72, 6,843-yard course from the back tees, is maintained in pristine condition with well manicured rolling fairways, smooth bunkers and greens that challenge a variety of skill levels.

Located just 29 miles northeast of Jacksonville International Airport, Amelia Island Plantation is Florida's Premier Island Resort.  Nestled between the Atlantic and the Intracoastal Waterway, the resort features 3˝ miles of wide, uncrowded beach, 72 holes of championship golf, luxury spa, 23 tennis courts, 20 pools, a shopping village, state-of-the-art health and fitness center, 10 dining opportunities and age-specific youth programs.
