Amelia River Golf Club

Residing on a delicate Northeast Florida barrier island, Amelia River Golf Club, formerly Royal Amelia, is an example of a golf course in perfect harmony with nature. This Tom Jackson-design is renowned as one of the best-conditioned courses in the area with incredibly smooth and spacious TifEagle greens and abundant natural water hazards.

Amelia River consists of 18 holes of challenging golf with wide and open fairways giving the golfer a sense of a traditional Scottish Links course. At Amelia River, ball control and accuracy are two essential elements to a successful round.

With five different tee boxes on each hole, seven available pin positions to choose from on each of its over-sized greens and water in play on 12 holes, Amelia River offers championship golf that head golf pro Barry Richardson describes as “a marvelous challenge for all skill levels.”

Amelia River Golf Club The par-72 layout, measuring 6,843 yards from the back tees, is just one of four championship golf courses located inside of beautiful and historic Amelia Island Plantation. It’s sculpted around a forest of majestic live oaks, Sabal palms, Southern pines and wax myrtles, all which stand in conjunction with an intricate system of lakes, ponds and streams.

“This course was designed to take advantage of the natural beauty of the water that runs alongside and through it,” said Richardson. “We have found that our golfers enjoy the look, feel and playability of no houses, no condos and no interruption to their round of golf.”

Golfers looking to improve their game can visit the Amelia Island Plantation Golf School, directed by Ed Bowe. Bowe is the director of instructor training for ESPN golf schools throughout the country, including the ESPN golf schools held at the Plantation.

Amelia River Golf Club With a nod to history, Amelia River Golf Club now features its new cedarshake clubhouse with the feel of a seaport as it faces eastward toward the Amelia River and the Intracoastal Waterway. The recent addition of this Cape Cod-style clubhouse adds warmth to the overall experience at Amelia River.

Amelia Island Plantation is located just 29 miles northeast of Jacksonville International Airport, off the northernmost coast of Florida. Its 2-by-13 mile size makes it ideal for visitors to soak up both the resort’s ambience and the beauty of the Victorian seaport town of Fernandina Beach at the north end of the island.
